By the Italian artist Abbiati Filippo (1640 – 1715) Oil on canvas 105 x 140 cm A portrayal of the Holy Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus by the Italian painter Filippo Abiatti who was a pupil of the painter Antonio Busca. Abiatti was a painter during the Baroque period. Together with Andrea Lanzani and Stefano Maria Legnani, was one of the most important Milanese mannerist painters in the Lombardian School. Ticozzi claims he trained, along with Federigo Bianchi, and Carlo Francesco Nuvolone. Along with Bianchi, he painted the cupola of Sant’ Alessandro Martire in Milan. Abbiati also painted a St. John preaching in the Wilderness for a church in Saronno.
