View through CrossRef

Natural interrelations of library science and library collection studies are substantiated. The subject of the library collection studies and their methodological approaches, i. e. historical, system, structural, functional, structural-functional, cultural, information, communicative, etc., are discussed. The author focuses on the dynamics, continuity, traditions in the discipline, the scholarship ideals and standards. The ethical character of the library collection studies is emphasized; the ethical problems being faced on every stage of collection development, organization and management are envisioned. Special attention is given to Prof. Stolyarov’s academic activities: he is rightfully considered to be a founder of the academic discipline “Library collection development studies” in its modern status. Yury Stolyarov’s academic contribution is analyzed in its epistemological, pragmatist, praxeological, and institutional aspects.
