Eriksberg Church, Eriksberg, Uppsala 2008

The picture has been taken in connection with cultural historical characterization of the Eriksberg Church, Uppsala janauri 2008. The Eriksberg Church is located in the Eriksberg district a kilometer west of the city center. The city part expanded greatly in the 1950-60s, when the former egnahems settlement and the slatted houses from the 40s were supplemented by a new large-scale settlement. For the soil treatment around the church, garden architect Ulla Bodorff replied. It is made up of mountain knobs in the day, grassy areas, some shrub vegetation and a mining plan in the west. To the east is the city forest and to the south the townhouse and the detached house on the Eriksberg road and Birkagatan. The Eriksberg Church was inaugurated in 1960 and designed in the 1950s by the architect Sten Hummel-Gumaelius as one of Uppsala’s new cityparts churches. It is located at an altitude adjacent to the Norby road and connects with its simple rectangular plan, its steep saddle roof and its inner space to Uppland’s medieval church construction. The church is built together with a parish house that encloses a courtyard with the church. A belfry in concrete with an eminently modernistic character is located next to the corner of the plant towards the Eriksbergsväg. The steep roof of the church rises high above the parish house, which is on the slope down towards the Eriksberg road. The parish home is built in sutre meadow on the slope down towards the Eriksberg road. The façades are spirit trimmed and decolorized in a warm white bulb. The high church roof is fitted with a false sliced sheet painted in black. The roof nock above the gables is adorned with crosses. The walls of the church are closed with small window openings except in the corner to the southeast where there are two large rectangular windows. The master joinery is painted in ochre yellow. However, the windows in the façade to the west, to the parish premises, have been replaced by new, white lacquered aluminium windows in plug-ins, giving the windows a rough and lumpy look compared to the original windows. The gates of the entrance to the west are clad with copper sheet. The circumvented cadastre was previously covered with cement slabs, but has been covered with a wooden deck since 2003. In the middle of the yard stands a fountain. In the courtyard there is also a sculpture in iron forge by Erik Ståhl called birds.
