Cleopatra Selene, one of the most determined and long‐lived of the Ptolemaic royal women, was born around 135–130

, the daughter of Ptolemy VIII and his niece‐wife, Cleopatra III. She was one of three daughters (with Cleopatra IV and Tryphaina) and two sons (Ptolemy IX and Ptolemy X), and may have been the youngest of the royal siblings. During her life she was both one‐time queen of Egypt and of Syria, and the wife and mother of several successive kings.
