Ted Bundy Through the Lens of Disability Studies: A Critical Analysis

<p><span>This paper examines the life and crimes of serial killer Ted Bundy (1946–1989) through the framework of disability studies, focusing on his diagnosed antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) and narcissistic personality disorder as potential "disabilities." Drawing on disability theory, which emphasises societal barriers, stigma, and the social model of disability, the analysis explores how Bundy's psychological impairments intersected with ableism, privilege, and criminality. While Bundy himself did not identify as disabled, this perspective highlights how mental health conditions can be weaponised or overlooked in narratives of deviance, challenging traditional views of disability as solely victimhood. By applying intersectionality and neurodiversity concepts, the paper critiques societal failures that enabled Bundy's actions and calls for a revaluation of how mental health disabilities are perceived in criminal contexts. This analysis is based on psychological evaluations, criminological studies, and disability theory, aiming to foster discussions on accountability, stigma, and support systems. Furthermore, it delves into media representations and historical contexts to illustrate broader implications for disability advocacy and criminal justice reform.</span><span></span></p>
