The Polish Soldier’s Oath. Contemporary history In the monograph, the author analyzed the history of the Polish soldier’s oath, shaped under the influence of historical, political and social factors. The author showed the rich traditions associated with it, but focused on the contemporary aspects of this phenomenon, starting with the oaths of soldiers joining the Polish formations created at the beginning of World War I. The next step is to present the changes in the military oath during the Second Polish Republic, a multinational and multicultural country, where the mentioned differences were reflected in the content of the oath. The oaths of the Polish underground fighters during World War II were analyzed, differing in content depending on the ideological profile of a specific organization. The process of shaping the text of the oath in post-war Poland, a politically dependent country, was also discussed, which was reflected in the content of subsequent versions of the oath. The authorities’ reactions to people who refused to submit it were also presented. After regaining sovereignty, the content of the rota changed and is still in force today. The presented analysis is accompanied by a story about military banners and banners, signs that play an important role during the oath.
