Froth sampling from extraction plants
View through CrossRef
The cryogenic sampling device developed at CANMET's Western Research Centre was used successfully to collect frozen froth samples from the extraction plants at both Suncor and Syncrude in Fort McMurray. Samples from the froth separation cell, froth settler, froth
cleaner, and tertiary oil recovery vessel were obtained as a function of depth using this method. It was difficult to obtain samples from the rougher and scavenger cells due to the underlying turbulence in the vessel which hindered the freezing process

Description:
The cryogenic sampling device developed at CANMET's Western Research Centre was used successfully to collect frozen froth samples from the extraction plants at both Suncor and Syncrude in Fort McMurray.
Samples from the froth separation cell, froth settler, froth
cleaner, and tertiary oil recovery vessel were obtained as a function of depth using this method.
It was difficult to obtain samples from the rougher and scavenger cells due to the underlying turbulence in the vessel which hindered the freezing process.
