International Seminar on Physics and Its Application (IsoPA) 2024, Universitas Negeri Surabaya on Connecting Physics to Real-world Applications to Realize the SDGs in Higher Education
The International Seminar on Physics and Its Application 2024, with the theme “Connecting Physics to Real-world Applications to Realize the SDGs in Higher Education,” holds special significance as it is the inaugural event in this series. The seminar aims to bring together experts and enthusiasts in physics to explore innovative ways to apply physics concepts to real-world problems, particularly in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in higher education.
This year, we are privileged to host esteemed speakers from around the world, including Prof. Dr. Hiroshi from Waseda University, Japan, who presented on “Protein Sensing Using Immobilized DNA/RNA on Diamond FETs Kawarada Institut Teknologi”; Prof. Endarko, Ph.D. from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Indonesia, with his talk on “3D Printed Phantoms: Implementation of Education and Research in Medical Physics”; Prof. Miraç Aydin from Trabzon University, Turkey, who discussed “Integrating Technology into Science/Physics Classroom Settings & Educational Robotics (ER) in Science/Physics Education”; and Assoc. Professor Muhammad Abd Hadi Bunyamin, Ph.D. from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia, who shared insights on “Justice and Equity in Physics, Education Research and Practice.”
The seminar was conducted in a hybrid format, with virtual sessions hosted via Zoom and in-person sessions taking place at The Southern Hotel, Surabaya, Indonesia. This approach allowed for greater accessibility and engagement among participants from various locations. Additionally, the event was held in two sessions: plenary and parallel session. The plenary session presented three keynote speakers. The parallel sessions were attended by invited speakers and authors presenting their papers and held in eight breakout room groups. The seminar saw the participation of 599 individuals, including students, lecturers, researchers, and the general public, all with a shared passion for physics. Of these, 148 contributed as paper presenters, while 451 attended as participants. The parcipants come from several countries namely Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Australia, and Saudi Arabia. This diverse representation reflects the broad interest and relevance of the seminar’s theme in addressing both educational and societal needs.
The contributions made during this seminar are expected to have a lasting impact on the fields of physics and physics education research. The discussions and collaborations fostered through this event highlight innovative solutions that can be applied to real-world challenges, advancing both academic knowledge and societal progress. Looking ahead, we are committed to ensuring the sustainability of this seminar as an annual event, providing a continued platform for international discourse and the development of cutting-edge research that supports the SDGs and promotes the integration of physics into practical, transformative applications in education and beyond.
We are deeply grateful to all the speakers and participants who have contributed to making this first seminar a success. We hope this event fosters continued dialogue and collaboration, helping to bridge the gap between physics theory and its real-world applications for the betterment of society.
