Medal of St. Helena

View through Europeana Collections
Double-link chain, with two links at one end, from which hang two circular medals. One is bronze -probably a devotional medal-, mounted on a silver serrated frame with engraved decoration and two lateral rings for suspension; on one side: figure of Saint nimbate with rays, dressed with mantle and with a patriarchal cross on the right arm and another cross on the left; on the other side, two crowned figures, both with a processional cross on the arm. The second medal is made of copper, mounted on a silver frame, smooth on one side and serrated on the other, also with two lateral rings; on one side, two standing figures. Set assimilated to the so-called medal of St. Helena, an amulet used against the alferecía, jealousy and convulsions.
