THE GRAMMATICAL SYSTEM OF THE POKUTTIA SUBDIALECT OF THE VILLAGE PRUTIVKA (KARLIV) KOLOMYYA DISTRICT IVANO-FRANKIVSK REGION

The article is devoted to the analysis of the main grammatical features of a subdialect as a system. The object of research is an ancient subdialect of the village Prutivka (Karliv) in the Sniatyn district. Historical information about the settlement and the main periods of its history were provided. Previous scientific studies on the subdialect have been analyzed. The material for this research was the author’s own recordings of speech from the older age group of the village residents, made in 2017. The linguistic signs representing the phonetic-grammatical features of the subdialect were singled out using the method of continuous sampling from the transcribed text. The descriptive method was chosen as the main research method for the analysis of the material. The phonetic-grammatical features were analyzed in detail, particularly concerning nominal parts of speech: gender of nouns, declension, peculiarities of dialectal adjectives, their degrees of comparison, the forms of ancient pronouns, and the formation of compound numerals. A range of dialect adverbs were described. Special attention was given to the system of the dialectal verb, particularly the formation of the past perfect and future tense forms, as well as the analysis of the dialectal conjugation. Among the syntactic features of the subdialect, emphasis was placed on the functioning of prepositional-case constructions in object and circumstantial meanings (time, place, manner of action, etc.). The emphasis was placed on the spread of special forms of proper names, traditional forms of address, the consistent use of truncated names and vocative forms, the so-called honorable plural, dialectal etiquette formulas, and phrases that highlight oral dialectal speech and give it expressiveness. The analyzed features are generally characteristic of the majority of Pokuttia subdialects. They reveal a high functional potential in the subdialect and testify to the stability of its grammatical system against neutralization.
