Case Report on Rare Presentation of Hepatic Cavernous Haemangioma with Diffuse Haemangiomatosis from Yekatit 12 Hospital Medical College Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

View through CrossRef
Abstract Background Hepatic hemangiomas are common benign liver tumors, usually small and asymptomatic. Rarely, giant hemangiomas or diffuse hemangiomatosis can cause significant morbidity through mass effect. The simultaneous presentation of a giant cavernous hemangioma with diffuse hemangiomatosis is exceedingly uncommon. Case Presentation: We report the case of a 47-year-old female who presented with a seven-year history of a progressive abdominal mass and compressive symptoms. Cross-sectional imaging confirmed a giant hemangioma (21x10x29 cm) arising from the liver with diffuse hemangiomatosis. Management and Outcome: The patient underwent successful open surgical resection. Her postoperative course was uneventful, with complete symptomatic relief and discharge on the fifth postoperative day. Conclusion Surgical resection is a definitive treatment for symptomatic giant hemangiomas, even in the complex setting of diffuse hemangiomatosis. A history of oral contraceptive use may be a relevant associated factor.
