After Sovereignty?

View through CrossRef
The book’s epilogue clarifies the theoretical and political concerns that motivated Catastrophic Historicism’s interventions into the fields of the theory of history and Puerto Rican studies. The epilogue makes explicit that at the core of the deconstruction of historicism elaborated in this book lies a concomitant critique of the desire for sovereignty that structures both the historicist narration of history, and the political imagination of most Puerto Rican intellectuals. The epilogue brings the book to an end by urging a new generation of Puerto Rican scholars to abandon the idealized romance with sovereignty as a way of developing a more historically grounded approach to the urgent task of decolonizing Puerto Rico.
