Porträt Johann Adolph Hasse (1699-1783)

View through Europeana Collections
Portrait of Johann Adolph Hasse. The composer is shown sitting on a chair as an entire figure facing left. His head is slightly turned to the right and he looks towards the viewer. He sits relaxed on the ornate piece of furniture, stretched his legs, deposited his left arm on the backrest, and supported his right arm on a table next to him, on which lies a broken book, on which he taps with his fingertips. There are two other books. Behind the table appears a curtain from the left. The composer probably wears a kind of frack, including a decorated vest with Jabot leaking out as well as a short wig, knee pants, white stockings and buckle shoes. Johann Adolf Hasse was an influential German composer of the late Baroque, who composed mainly Italian style operas. He should have rejected an invitation to London because he did not want to compete with Georg Friedrich Händel. He allegedly married a singer, Faustina Bordoni. The portrait was made by D. K. Bonatti as a puncture, nothing else is known about the artist. Nor about the role of Jean-Baptiste-François Bosio, which is not clear in this portrait, since only "Bosio dis."On the left side of the scene. The National Portrait Gallery in London seems to have been the only one to have another piece of the present specimen. It was also published in the 1818 publication “Serie di vite e ritratti de famosi personaggi degli ultimi tempos.” Signature: Bosio dis. D. K. Bonatti inc.
