A full portrait of a seated woman, facing left, shown in profile, the whole composition reminiscent of Whistler's portrait of his mother. The woman wears a dark blue pleated dress with a white collar. She wears a coral necklace with a gold clasp. Her hair is pinned up from her neck. To the left is a table with a blue and white vase upon it along with a closed book.
