Women’s Representation in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha: A Study of Disabled Women (2014-2024)

Women make up about half of India's population, according to the country's demographic profile, which emphasizes the necessity of maximizing the labor force in order to realize Viksit Bharat by 2047. Every human being has the right to live in freedom and dignity, free from discrimination based on factors like sex, caste, disability, language, etc. Women have historically been viewed as inferior to men in today's society. Regrettably, women are still underrepresented in all professions, including politics, the court, and the military.The Indian Constitution was amended by the 106th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2023, which gives women one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha, state legislatures, and Delhi's legislative assembly, including seats designated for SCs and STs. However, in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, just 13.81 percent (75 out of 543) were elected as female MPs. It is evident that women are underrepresented in the Lok Sabha, demonstrating the dominance of men in India's political system. People with impairments make up 2% of all Indians, according to the 2011 Census. This is a significant proportion, underscoring the importance of their representation in political institutions. Despite their substantial demographic presence, disaggregated statistics on the representation of people with disabilities in politics are severely lacking. To assess their participation in legislative or electoral groups, there is no clear or systematic division. The lack of precise data and representation indicates a gap between normative commitments and real conditions, showing that persons with disabilities are structurally invisible in India's political system, despite the constitution's emphasis on equality and equity. examining the impact on the historical backdrop of women with disabilities' representation in the Indian Parliament and the rising trend of women's representation in Parliament during the Narendra Modi administration from 2014 to 2024.
