The article presents a historical portrait of Grand Duke Sergey Alexandrovich - an outstanding statesman and a philanthropist, the Moscow Governor-General, Commander of the Moscow military district, Chairman and honorary member of numerous scientific, social and charitable organizations. Son of Emperor Alexander II and Empress Maria Alexandrovna, Grand Duke Sergey Alexandrovich received a comprehensive education, which enabled him to show himself in different areas and leave a major mark in the history of Russia at the end of XIXth century and at the beginning of XXth century. Grand Duke Sergey Alexandrovich was a brilliant representative of the “Moscow scenario” (in the terminology of Professor Richard S. Wortman), fully supported course to restore the values of Old Moscow Russia.
