Praise and School of Baban in Saleem's poem

Praise holds a significant place in Kurdish literary tradition, with Saleem standing as a notable example of this practice. His works reflect a culture where poets and writers often engage in praise, a tendency deeply rooted in Eastern societies. Saleem praised both people and nature, drawing inspiration from his surroundings. Alongside his three sons, he lived through the political rise and fall of the Baban dynasty. As an intellectual, Salim embraced religion through mysticism and Sufism—naturally directing praise toward the Prophet and revered spiritual figures. Yet, he was not merely a mystic; he was also a sensitive soul who found profound beauty in nature’s simple wonders. Like a shepherd in love, Saleem expressed deep emotional wounds and transformed them into poetic storytelling. Few poets captured love as beautifully as he did. This study aims to emphasize that Kurdish cultural and literary history is no less rich than that of other nations. It is structured in two main parts: first, an exploration of the Baban school’s history, and second, an analysis of praise in Saleem’s poetry, with particular focus on how he celebrated and immortalized Baban.
