Des la première ligne de l'avant-propos, il écrit:Ce livre affirme la réalité de l'esprit, la réalité de la matière, et essaie de déterminer le rapport de l'un à l'autre sur un exemple précis, celui de la mémoire. Il c'est done nettement dualiste. (G'est nous qui soulignons.).
