The loyal samurai, having reached their goal, withdraw and assemble in Sengoku-temple

Ichiyūsai Kuniyoshiga I様様様 Ilinker part of the Triptych (cf. KI 10509-2, KI 10509-3) A winter scene in front of the Sengoku temple IIII( actually Sengaku-ji I様) in Shinwa, Edo. The last scene of the Chūshingura 様, which goes beyond the plot of the Kabuki plays. The 47 vassals (rōnin Die 様) of Prince Asano Die collect in the family temple of the Lullabour’s lord to sacrifice his opponent’s head, Moronao 様, and say goodbye to each other. The picture shows some of the vassals rising to the temple. In the cartouches the names of the respective figures. In the background the bay of Edo. The very broad and dramatic narrative of these woodcuts is typical of the living style of Kuniyoshi, as well as the representations of the groups and trains in this winter scene.
