William McKinley’s First Inaugural Address

View through CrossRef
Abstract This chapter presents William McKinley’s First Inaugural Address. The address highlights that economy is demanded in every branch of the government, especially during periods of depression in business and distress among the people. McKinley acknowledges that the United States is suffering from industrial disturbances from which speedy relief is needed. The address also indicates that McKinley aims to secure international bimetallism through cooperation with other great commercial powers of the world. McKinley notes that the best way for the government to maintain its credit is to pay as it goes through an adequate income secured by a system of taxation. The address also mentions McKinley’s insistence on reforms in the civil service.
