McCormack Cycloaddition

View through CrossRef
Abstract The synthesis of phospholene oxides involving the cycloaddition of dihalophosphines with 1,3‐dienes and subsequent hydrolysis is generally referred to as the McCormack reaction or McCormack cycloaddition. Generally, this reaction has been performed without any solvent addition and the actual reaction time depends on steric and electronic factors. This reaction has been modified to react with 2‐chloroethyl dichlorophosphite and phosphorus tribromide. Besides the general preparation of phospholene oxides, this reaction has been used to prepare bicyclic phospholene oxides.
