La antropología de Jaime Balmes
View through CrossRef
The main reason that drives Jaime Balmes in his work is a deep love for the truth. With him the study of his Anthropology begins, because it is thanks to that trust to truth-reality that justifies the concrete search for the truth of the human being. Balmes then confronts the contemporary anthropological problem, namely, if human nature exists and what it is. In this way he rescues the human essence and existence, that is, the truth and freedom of man, a free existence that can only reach its perfection if it assumes and develops its own essence or truth –«The truth will make you free»–. Recovered human nature, Balmes can ask why it is, why is the human being. Following his methodological realism, this important question is approached from a first analytical study (which freed him from pantheism), completing it with the subsequent synthetic one (thus freeing him from the relativistic excess). But this methodological division is going to be shown as the very key to the interpretation of the human being: comprehensive and integrative anthropology that allows us to understand (the human being) in all his richness and diversity, and offers him the harmony or unity, in that diversity (interior and exterior), as the key to reaching its maximum fullness.
