View through CrossRef
Background: The modern era is characterized by a sedentary life style. Due to these changes in lifestyle (Vihar) and dietary habits (Aahar), human beings are becoming increasingly susceptible to various disorders. The disease that arises from a vitiation of the Rakta (blood) and aggravated Vata is known as Vatarakta. Aim: The main aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Mustadi Rajyapana Basti in the management of Vatarakta in individuals with a sedentary life style and for those who are unwilling to undergo Virechan Karma. Materials and Methods: The pilot study was conducted over 7 patients of Vatarakta for a period of 2 sittings in 7 days with follow up of 30 days. All patients were selected from the O.P.D. of Panchakarma department of Gurukul campus, Uttarakhand Ayurved University, Haridwar. The study parameters of inclusion and exclusion were selected by applying Wilcoxon statistical test. Patients were assessed on the basis of subjective parameter before and after trial. Result: Mustadi Raj Yapana Basti was highly significant in Stabdhata (P <0.01). Significant result was found in Sandhiruk &Sandhi Toda (P<0.05). Stastically there was no significant result seen in Kandu, Vidha, Twak Vaivarnya, Raga, Sparasasahtva, Supti, Gurutwa, Sandhi Shotha & Sandhipak (P>0.05). Conclusion: Mustadi Rajyapana Basti is highly effective in condition characterized by Stabdhata and also effective in Sandhiruk and Sandhi Toda. Its efficacy diminishes in diseases that have persisted for more than 12 months. In cases where Vatarakta has become chronic, the condition becomes Yapya. It is very effective in acute condition where physical mobility is restricted as well as in female patients susceptible to developing Vatarakta following menopause. This Basti reduces the frequency and severity of attacks.
