هدفت هذه الدراسة الى معرفة تأثير العزلة والغربة اللتان عاشتهما الكاتبة البريطانية "دوريس ليسينج" في شبابها المبكر في مزرعة معزولة في روديسيا الجنوبية بعد انتقال عائلتها من بلاد فارس. لقد كان لتجربة الكاتبة - كغريبة إفريقية – حول مجتمعي السود والبيض أثرا بارزا في فهم مستقبلي البيض والطبقة الوسطى ، وكذلك أعضاء المؤسسة السياسية الحاكمة الذين وجدوا أنفسهم معزولين عن مجتمعهم المتميز ، ومنجذبون الى ما هو مختلف في الثقافة الأفريقية الأصلية؛ مدركة إستحالة أن تكون جزء من هذه الثقافة. حاولت هذه الورقة الكشف عن زيف الأسطورة الاستعمارية حول تفوق البيض، ومعاناتهم، وفقدان هويتهم، وضرورة بقاء السود والبيض منفصلين.
