This research article aims to study the mythical lost cities in the narratives of the Northern and Northeastern regions of Thailand in two aspects. The first aspect is the concept of the apocalypse, and the second is environmental ethics. This is a qualitative study using descriptive-interpretive analysis based on documentary research, following the framework of the concept of the apocalypse. It examines three legends that mention lost cities as part of traditional narratives, namely, Thao Khatthana, Phadaeng Nang Ai, and Singhanawat, to generate new knowledge linking legends and traditional folk tales with contemporary ideas. This study contributes to the conservation of nature using traditional ecological wisdom. The findings reveal that the concept of the apocalypse in mythical lost cities highlights human identity and behavior, as well as moral issues and certain human characteristics. Two key aspects emerge: 1) the apocalypse as a struggle for natural resources, where competition arises over possession and survival, and 2) the apocalypse as the collapse of moral system, referring to the deterioration of human ethical relationships with nature. Regarding environmental ethics, the study presents the ethical relationship between humans and nature in two areas: 1) the human-nature relationship, which examines the power of nature, emphasizing that the natural world and other living beings possess inherent forces beyond human comprehension, and 2) the human-supernatural relationship, which discusses sacred animals, particularly albino animals, as representations of nature’s “otherness” with supernatural power that humans cannot fully control or comprehend. This perspective underscores the importance of protecting and preserving animal well-being.
