Band with Stylized Animals
View through Harvard Museums
Wide band with highly stylized animals and plants created in purple yarn with a light background. Details of the small animals and plants are done with a white supplementary weft in the ‘flying shuttle’ technique. Rabbits are visible, possibly also birds, fish, and lions; the design is difficult to read, without a clear pattern. Red ground visible at sides, suggesting that the band once decorated a primarily red textile. Red wool warps.
