A multisectoral approach involving other sectors is essential to bring about changes to the environmental and social factors involved in non-communicable disease (NCD) development. This chapter explores the process of moving beyond the health sector and into some of these other areas. This chapter provides a brief overview of the rationale for multisectoral action. It goes on to discuss the key steps for policy-makers to follow when developing and implementing a multisectoral action plan and provides an overview of the practical tools available to assist in this process. To illustrate some of these principles, the chapter includes case studies development and implementation of a multisectoral NCD control and prevention plan.
