GENERATION OF CLEAR ALIGNERS
View through CrossRef
Clear aligners have revolutionized modern orthodontic treatment by providing an aesthetic, comfortable, and removable alternative to conventional fixed appliances. The generation of clear aligners involves a series of advanced digital and manufacturing processes designed to achieve precise and controlled tooth movement. The procedure begins with comprehensive patient evaluation, diagnosis, and digital impression acquisition using intraoral scanners or conventional models. Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technologies are then utilized to create virtual treatment plans and sequential tooth movement simulations. Based on these digital setups, aligners are fabricated using thermoforming techniques over three-dimensional printed models or directly manufactured using advanced polymer technologies. Recent advancements in materials science, artificial intelligence, and additive manufacturing have significantly improved the accuracy, efficiency, and biomechanics of aligner therapy. Different generations of clear aligners have evolved with enhanced features such as optimized attachments, smart force systems, and shape memory materials to manage complex orthodontic movements effectively. This topic highlights the principles, digital workflow, fabrication methods, materials, technological advancements, advantages, limitations, and future perspectives related to the generation of clear aligners in orthodontics.
