"Adab al-bahs" is a work of literature

Ahmad al-Iji al-Shirazi, who lived in the Middle Ages, was a scholar of kalam, usul, and language. He was born in Ija near Shiraz in 680/1281. He had high knowledge and wrote many works: "ar-Risala al-adudiyya fi al-vadiya", "al-Muvafiq fi elm al-kalam", "Risala fi elm al-akhlaq", "Taliqat litafsir al-Curcani lil-Muvafiq fi elm al-kalam", "Adab bahs al-Aduddiyya", etc. In his "Hafiz Divan", Hafiz Shirazi called him one of the five important figures of the Fars region, "the king of kings of the country of knowledge". Adudaddin al-Iji's work "Adab al-Bahs", dedicated to the methods of conducting polemics, is given in bibliographic sources under the names "al-Adabul adudiyya", "ar-Risala al-Adudiyya", "ar-Risala fi adab al-Bahs", "Risala al-Munazara va al-Khilaf", "Adabul bahs al-adudiyya". Dozens of commentaries, glosses, and ta'liqs have been written on this work, which has been taught and memorized in madrasas for years. Examples include as-Sayyid ash-Sharif Ali bin Muhammad al-Curcani (740-816/1339-1413), Usamaddin Abulkhair Ahmad bin Mustafa bin Tashkopruzade (901-968/1494-1560), as-Suguri Abu al-Haj Abdurrahman, Movlana Shah Hussein, Ibrahim Muhammad al-Asfarani, Movlana Amad Jindi, al-Fazil Abdul al-Ali Ibn Muhammad al-Barjandi, Muhammad Baqir, etc. The work "Adab al-Bahs" also attracted the attention of Azerbaijani scientists, and Muhammad Hanafi Karabaghi Tabrizi (942/1535), Mahyaddin Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Muhammad al-Barda'i at-Tabrizi al-Hanafi (927/1521) wrote commentaries, and Mir Abi-l-Fath Ardabili Mir Abilfath Muhammad bin Amin Al-Saidi Al-Ardabili (875/1470) wrote glosses. The work "Adab al-Bahs" was taught in madrasas not only in Azerbaijan but also in a number of countries in the Near East until the beginning of the 20th century. Dozens of copies of this monument are preserved in many libraries, museums, and manuscript treasures of the world. Also, about 20 manuscripts and one old printed copy of the work copied in the XVII-XVIII centuries are preserved in the treasury of the Institute of Manuscripts named after Muhammad Fuzuli of ANAS.
