Skin Cancer Risk Assessment among Adult Outdoor Workers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Objective: To evaluate skin cancer risk among adult outdoor workers in Riyadh using the Personal Risk Assessment: Sun and Skin Cancer for Outdoor Workers (PRA-SSCOW) tool and identify demographic influences on UV safety practices and sun sensitivity. Methods: A cross-sectional study surveyed 290 adult outdoor workers from September to December 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A personal risk assessment of sun and skin cancer for outdoor workers was utilized. Data included demographics, solar UV safety, and sun sensitivity scores. Results: the study results showed that the personal risk assessment of sun and skin cancer among outdoor workers had an overall elevated risk profile. While most participants were classified at moderate risk, a notable subset fell into the high-risk category. The mean score for solar UV safety knowledge was 7.59, and the total mean score for sun sensitivity was 17.58. Statistical analysis indicated that a higher education level was significantly associated with lower total risk assessment scores, whereas non-Saudi workers demonstrated significantly higher total risk assessment scores compared to their Saudi participants. Conclusion: Adult outdoor workers in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, face a moderate-to-elevated risk of sun-related skin cancer, with lower education level and non-Saudi nationality identified as significant risk determinants. Policymakers should enforce mandatory workplace UV protection regulations, routine dermatological screenings, and targeted health education campaigns for these vulnerable groups. Longitudinal and intervention-based research is warranted to evaluate the effectiveness of such strategies.
