IMPACT OF SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM IN PROMOTING SOCIAL INTEGRATION AMONG PRIMARY SCHOOLS PUPILS IN GOMBI EDUCATIONAL ZONE, ADAMAWA STATE, NIGERIA

This study investigated “impact of social studies curriculum in promoting social integration among primary schools pupils in Gombi Educational Zone, Adamawa State, Nigeria. Two (2) research objectives, questions and hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The hypotheses were formulated and tested at P< 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was made up of 98 from 8 selected private and public primary schools in Gombi educational zone. The sample size was 98 made up of 57 male and 41 female social studies teachers. The study used census sampling technique for whole social studies teachers. “Impact of Social Integration among Primary School Pupils Questionnaire (SIPAPSQ)" as an instrument for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was obtained through the pilot test that was conducted for the purpose of reliability co-efficient where SIPAPSQ was established. The Cronbach's Alpha reliability co-efficient index of .920 was obtained. The study used of the independent sample t-test, while mean and standard deviation were used in answering the research questions and other variables. The independent sample t-test was applied in testing the hypotheses at P>0.05 level of significance. Hypothesis 1 was rejected while hypothesis 2 was retained. The findings of the study revealed that social integration is capable of promoting interaction between Private and Public Primary and there is no significant difference between the perception of Public and Private Teachers on the on the impact of social integration in enhancing interaction  among Primary School pupils  in Gombi Education Zone, Adamawa State, and social integration is capable of promoting acceptability among Primary School pupils and difference exists between the perception of Public and Private Teachers on the impact of social integration in enhancing active participation among Primary School pupils in Gombi Education Zone, Adamawa State. The following recommendations were made: the government and its agencies involved in financing education should make learning materials available in public primary schools. This will promote their interaction among pupils, school administrators should ensure that their pupils are exposed all forms of national celebrations which will enhance active participation in such activities and there is need for government and school authorities to organize extra-curricular activities in form of competition between primary schools this will ensure more acceptability among their pupils through such activities.
