ECR Spotlight – Tim Jakobi

ECR Spotlight is a series of interviews with early-career authors from a selection of papers published in Journal of Experimental Biology and aims to promote not only the diversity of early-career researchers (ECRs) working in experimental biology but also the huge variety of animals and physiological systems that are essential for the ‘comparative’ approach. Tim Jakobi is an author on ‘ How honeybees perceive and traverse apertures’, published in JEB. Tim conducted the research described in this article while a Research Associate in Sridhar Ravi's lab at University of New South Wales Canberra, Australia. Tim is now a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Postdoctoral Fellow in the lab of Hao Liu at Chiba University, Japan, investigating biomechanics and cognition of insect flight, learning how bees gather cues from the local environment to output efficient flight performance in complex clutter and informing the bio-inspired design of flapping-wing micro drones.
