Tualang Honey: akin angiogenesis inhibitor
View through CrossRef
Formation of new blood vessels controlled by chemical signals involves differentiation, growth and migration of the endothelial cells lining the interior blood vessels. MTH is a wild multi-flora honey produced by the Apis dorsata bees. MTH has proven to have high medicinal properties due to high bioactive constituents such as phenolic acids and flavonoids. By the use of endothelial cells, we investigated the anti-proliferative and anti-migratory activity of honey using concentrations 0.3%, 0.6%, and 0.9%. The MTT results suggested that viability of HUVECs decreased when the concentration of MTH is increased. However, the IC50 of MTH fall at 4.3%. Based on MTT result, 0.3%, 0.6% and 0.9% of MTH were chosen for cell proliferation and cell migration assay. All concentrations tested significantly reduced the proliferation rate of endothelial cells but 0.9% showed the maximal inhibition. Similarly, at the same concentration a reduction in the migration distance was about half of the total migration in was observed (VEGF) Induced-HUVECs. MTH is a potential anti-angiogenesis inhibitor which can be obtain and consumed easily. Therefore, further investigation on the cellular mechanisms regulating the proliferation and migration of human vascular cells should be studied.

Description:
Formation of new blood vessels controlled by chemical signals involves differentiation, growth and migration of the endothelial cells lining the interior blood vessels.
MTH is a wild multi-flora honey produced by the Apis dorsata bees.
MTH has proven to have high medicinal properties due to high bioactive constituents such as phenolic acids and flavonoids.
By the use of endothelial cells, we investigated the anti-proliferative and anti-migratory activity of honey using concentrations 0.
3%, 0.
6%, and 0.
9%.
The MTT results suggested that viability of HUVECs decreased when the concentration of MTH is increased.
However, the IC50 of MTH fall at 4.

Based on MTT result, 0.

9% of MTH were chosen for cell proliferation and cell migration assay.
All concentrations tested significantly reduced the proliferation rate of endothelial cells but 0.
9% showed the maximal inhibition.
