[Altarpiece of Saint Francis of Assisi] [Graphic Material]

View through Europeana Collections
The altarpiece whose multiple Franciscan allusions suggests that it would be destined to a convent of this order. In the center is depicted the scene of the death of Saint Francis, under the well-known shield of the criss-crossed arms of Christ and the saint. On the sides, the sculptures of the archangels San Miguel and San Rafael stand out between the columns, under two tiny pavilions, and at the ends an angel with a shield with the five sores and another with a skull, a cilia and a cross. The upper part culminates with the scene of the Porciuncula and two holy doctors San Jerónimo and San Buenaventura.
