AYURVEDIC GENETICS: A STUDY OF BEEJA, BEEJA BHAGA, AND BEEJA BHAGA AVAYAVA AND THEIR RELEVANCE TO MODERN GENETICS
View through CrossRef
The study of genes, genetic diversity, and inheritance in living things is known as genetics. It is believed that the
science of genetics emerged in the 19th century. The principle of inheritance was first established by Gregor
Mendel, who also explained how genetic features are passed down from one generation to the next. However,
Ayurveda, the Upaveda of Atharvaveda, and books dating back thousands of years have described some genetic
principles. According to Ayurveda, the notions of Beeja, Beeja bhaga, and Beeja bhaga avayava have an impact
on an individual's prakriti, and if these units are vitiated, the offspring would be deformed. Acharya Charaka,
Sushruta, and Vagbhata have all described many genetic deformities in Sharira sthana. Each of our Brihatrayis
three Acharyas provides a brief explanation of topics such as fetal development, growth, and deformities, pregnancy diseases, Adibalapravritta disease, and more.
