A Pharmaceutical Preparation of Kasisa Godanti Bhasma with special reference to Rasa Tantra Sara Evam Siddha Prayoga Sangraha
View through CrossRef
Background: Bhasma Kalpana is an important pharmaceutical process in Rasashastra in which metals and minerals are transformed into therapeutically suitable, bio-assimilable, and non-toxic forms through procedures such as Shodhana, Bhavana, and Marana. Kasisa Godanti Bhasma, prepared from Kasisa and Godanti, is a classical herbo-mineral formulation indicated in Pandu Roga and related disorders.
Aim and Objectives: To prepare Kasisa Godanti Bhasma according to the classical guidelines mentioned in Rasa Tantra Sara evam Siddha Prayoga Sangrah and to establish a standardized pharmaceutical procedure for its preparation.
Materials and Methods: Three batches of Kasisa Godanti Bhasma were prepared following the same Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Kasisa was purified by Swedana in Bhringraja Swarasa and Godanti by Swedana in Nimbu Swarasa as per classical references. Purified materials were subjected to Bhavana with Kumari Swarasa followed by Marana through Gajaputa. Pharmaceutical observations including changes in colour, texture, weight, pH, temperature pattern, and classical Bhasma Pareeksha were documented systematically.
Results: During Shodhana, Kasisa showed gradual dissolution in Bhringraja Swarasa with reduction in lustre and increase in weight, whereas Godanti became softer and brighter with reduction in weight after purification. Repeated Bhavana and Gajaputa resulted in progressive transformation of the material into a fine, soft, lustreless, and tasteless Bhasma. Three Puta were required for complete formation of Kasisa Godanti Bhasma. The final product fulfilled classical Bhasma Pareeksha parameters including Rekhapurnatwa, Varitaratwa, Sukshmatwa, Mridutwa, and Gatarasatwa.
Conclusion: The present study successfully standardized the pharmaceutical preparation of Kasisa Godanti Bhasma according to classical references. The study established a reproducible SOP and demonstrated that proper Shodhana, Bhavana, controlled Gajaputa, and gradual self-cooling are essential for obtaining a stable and pharmaceutically acceptable Bhasma.
