LANGUAGE MEANS OF ЕVALUATION IN OGNEN SPAKHICH’S NOVEL „HANSEN’S CHILDREN“
View through CrossRef
The article analyzes the linguistic means of evaluation in the novel of the modern Montenegrin writer Ognen Spahic „Hansen’s Children“, translated into Ukrainian. Evaluation is qualified as a universal stylistic category, which covers multilevel language units with axiological semantics and conveys the positive or negative attitude of the speaker to the named object, phenomenon, concept.
The text of the novel raises a close and understandable for the Ukrainian and Montenegrin peoples problem of loss of humanity in the conditions of totalitarian systems, ironic portrayal of the myth of freedom in democratic societies. The linguistic behavior of the translator of the work is determined by the universal values of freedom, which are the basis of motivation to build evaluative paradigms of nuclear concepts: man, environment, totalitarian system, new world, which have a clearly negative psychological and emotional connotation. Rational axiology is manifested in the contextual functioning of common lexical units.
Positive, emotional and symbolic in the text are the universal values of culture and spirituality, which unite the nation and humanity in general: art, nature, history. Evaluation in a translated work is done by using language units registered in dictionaries or in the memory of native speakers in terms of their values. Analysis of the translated text proves that the problem of the totalitarian system has a common understanding in the Montenegrin and Ukrainian worldviews. One of the defining criteria for the formation of the axiological scale of the novel is the aesthetic perfection of the semantic, semantic content of language units – tokens, expressions, phraseology.
The considered axiological paradigms of lexical units, in particular synonyms, and stylistic means (epithets, metaphors, antitheses, oxymorons) testify that the traditionally established universal axiological scale influences the discovery of a common fund of different languages and makes a work of art the property of all mankind.
