L’objet de cet article est d’étudier le vers 244 du chant 7 de la Pharsale de Lucain afin de résoudre les difficultés textuelles qu’il pose et qui continuent à diviser les éditeurs du poème. En partant de la tradition manuscrite, il s’agira de montrer d’abord pourquoi le texte transmis par les manuscrits est probablement corrompu, pour envisager ensuite de possibles corrections en élargissant la réflexion à l’étude des conjectures qui ont été formulées. Cet article se veut aussi une réflexion sur la méthode à adopter pour (ré)éditer aujourd’hui Lucain.
