Radio navigation and landing systems
View through CrossRef
The textbook discusses the issues of the general theory of navigation necessary for mastering the material that reveals the principles of construction and operation of on-board devices and radio navigation systems. The general characteristics of radio engineering and non-radio engineering navigation aids are given. The classification is given and the main characteristics of radio navigation systems are considered. Navigation concepts and terms are explained. The coordinate systems used in aviation navigation, methods for determining navigation parameters, as well as factors affecting the accuracy of radio navigation definitions, and ways to improve it are considered. The technique of constructing and analyzing the working zones of radio navigation systems is shown. The modern requirements of aviation consumers for navigation accuracy are analyzed.
The main attention is paid to the consideration of theoretical aspects and principles of operation of on-board radio navigation devices and systems of modern civil aviation aircraft. Typical block diagrams, basic mathematical relations characterizing the operation of radio altimeters and radio altimeter systems, Doppler speed and drift angle meters, on-board and ground equipment of short-range navigation systems (automatic radio compasses and drive radios, VOR/DME angle-measuring system), radio landing systems and satellite navigation systems are presented.
Structural diagrams are given as examples of practical implementation, the main characteristics of Russian-made radio navigation systems and equipment installed on the A-320 aircraft are considered, and the features of their design are shown.
The presented text material is accompanied by a sufficient number of illustrations.
Meets the requirements of the federal state educational standards of higher education of the latest generation.
The textbook is intended for students studying in the fields of training and specialties of the radio engineering profile. It can also be useful for pilots and aviation specialists operating ground-based and airborne radio navigation flight support facilities.
