Growth of chicks of various superior strains resulting from artificial insemination in Kendari city

Abstract Local chickens in Indonesia consist of some strains, including native chicken, ULU chicken, Sensi chicken, Elba chicken, KUB chicken, Arab chicken, Bangkok chicken, etc. Measurement of the growth aspects of chicks from artificial insemination (AI) is intended to determine the initial success of the AI program. This study aimed to analyze feed consumption, daily gain, and feed conversion of AI chicks from various superior chicken strains in Kendari City. This research was conducted from August 2024 to September 2024 at the Laboratory of Poultry Livestock Unit, Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Halu Oleo. The main materials used in this study were chicken DOC of seven chicken strains, namely native chicken, ULU chicken, Sensi chicken, Elba chicken, KUB chicken, Arab chicken, Bangkok chicken, 50 chickens each. The variables evaluated consisted of feed consumption, daily gain, and feed conversion. The data obtained were analyzed for variance analysis to analyze the effect of strain on production traits, while differences between treatments were tested with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) using IbM SPSS Statistics 25 software. The results of the variance analysis showed that different strains had a significant effect (P<0.05) on feed consumption, daily gain, and feed conversion. The ULU chicken strain produces better growth performance than other local chicken strains.
