Stage costume for The Magic Flute
View through Europeana Collections
Theatrical costume for the character of Astrafiammante in The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, play directed by Guido Salvini in 1940, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Costume of fantastic inspiration that identifies the figure of the Queen of the night. Concept and design of the costume are by Aldo Calvo, set and costume designer, author of opera and film productions. Calvo experimented with the technique of painting on fabric and created costumes with lively chromatic contrasts. The costume was worn by the opera singer Lina Pagliughi. \Details: Painted silk satin, cotton jersey, silk organza; painted wool border; neck and sleeve decorations in painted silk crepe: Visualità del Maggio, Prato 1979.\nI Barocchi Atto I, Cerratelli Foundation, San Giuliano Terme (Pisa), 2006.\nI Barocchi Atto I, Chiesa di San Domenico, Pisa, 2006-2007. \L'arte della Meraviglia, Filatoio di Caraglio, Caraglio (Cuneo), 2012-2013.\nBibliography: Visualità del Maggio.
