Porträt Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898)

Portrait of Otto von Bismarck. The German politician and statesman is portrayed here as an apparently sitting, frontal half figure. His gaze is directed at just outside the right leaf margin. Here he presents himself with shaken hair on the sides and mustache. He also wears a simple, buttoned coat with a fly around his neck. The effigy is framed rectangular. Otto von Bismarck would also have to be well known to everyone. He had studied law in Göttingen and Berlin’s Friedrich Wilhelm University. After spending some time in the countryside, he began to enter politics at the municipal level in 1845. In 1851 Friedrich Wilhelm IV appointed him as Prussian envoy to the Bundestag in Frankfurt. From 1862 the premier post about Prussia followed. In the meantime he became Count of Bismarck-Schönhausen for his services from 1865. From 1867 he was Federal Chancellor of the Northern German Confederation and from 1871 to 1890 the first Chancellor of the Reich of the German Reich. The leaf was probably executed by the British William Holl d.J. (1807-1871) as steel engraving. He used a photograph as a template. It is known that the German painter Franz von Lenbach (1836-1904) photographed Bismarck and other personalities several times in various clothes in order to create his paintings later in the photo. It is unclear whether the photo of him is, but it will probably be. The author will probably be William Mackenzie, who was also British, an activity can be proven from 1854-1855.
