Improved Mechanical Characteristics of AA2519 through the Synergistic Effect of B4C Addition by Squeeze Casting

View through CrossRef
In this research, squeeze casting and the inclusion of micron-sized B4C particles yielded B4C/AA2519 composites with improved mechanical properties of the AA2519. Mechanical effects of B4C content and squeeze casting (SC) on AA2519 were studied using tensile testing and hardness testing analytical techniques. The mechanical properties of AA2519 were shown to be significantly affected by the B4C content and squeeze casting, according to the research. As the B4C concentration in AA2519 was increased, the grain size decreased and the porousness rise, especially in the permanent mold casting condition. SC dramatically reduced pore flaws, superior grain size and caused the B4C to dispense evenly and connect closely with the Al matrix, as compared to permanent mold casting. When comparing the mechanical characteristics of the AA2519 obtained with B4C and SC to those of the AA2519 obtained without B4C and SC, the results are striking: an increase of 11.21% in tensile strength, 74.9% in yield strength, 195.61% in elongation, 24.81% in elastic modulus and 26.31 % in hardness. The B4C/AA2519 composites formed using squeeze casting had a thick fracture surface and had a ductile fracture mechanism.
Title: Improved Mechanical Characteristics of AA2519 through the Synergistic Effect of B4C Addition by Squeeze Casting
Description:
When comparing the mechanical characteristics of the AA2519 obtained with B4C and SC to those of the AA2519 obtained without B4C and SC, the results are striking: an increase of 11.
21% in tensile strength, 74.
9% in yield strength, 195.
61% in elongation, 24.
81% in elastic modulus and 26.
31 % in hardness.
The B4C/AA2519 composites formed using squeeze casting had a thick fracture surface and had a ductile fracture mechanism.
