View through CrossRef

Study of the susceptibility of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith, 1797) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) to chemical insecticides
ABSTRACT
Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of a few synthetic insecticides on the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda in the laboratory, in order to contribute to the development of a control method for this pest in Côte d'Ivoire.
Methodology and results: Five (5) insecticide products were tested on S. frugiperda stage 2 larvae using the topical application method. Mortality was monitored for 72 hours and the LD50 and LD90 of each product were then determined. The results show that the mortality rate varies according to the active ingredients and the doses. Based on lethal doses, emamectin and deltamethrin were more effective with LD50 of 0.4 μg/g and 0.8 μg/g respectively compared to cypermethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin and profenofos.
Conclusion and application of results: This study identified active ingredients that could control the fall armyworm S. frugiperda. These active ingredients can be included in programs to control this pest in crops, particularly maize and cotton.
